Why are you into it?

This is the one I'd text a friend about.

About

Most sunscreen burns. Your eyes water. Your skin protests. You apply it anyway because skin cancer is worse than temporary misery. But mineral sunscreens with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide don't sting because they sit on top of your skin instead of absorbing into it. Chemical sunscreens like oxybenzone and avobenzone penetrate your skin to work, and that's where the burning starts.

Blue Lizard Sensitive is the one dermatologists recommend when patients say they can't tolerate sunscreen. It's thick. It leaves a slight white cast. It doesn't budge once it sets. EltaMD UV Clear goes on lighter, includes niacinamide for sensitive skin, and costs twice as much. Both work immediately after application because minerals don't need to absorb. Chemical sunscreens make you wait twenty minutes.

CeraVe Hydrating Mineral Sunscreen includes ceramides and hyaluronic acid, so it doubles as moisturizer. Neutrogena Sheer Zinc spreads easier than most mineral formulas but still protects like armor. The key is zinc oxide at 15 percent or higher. Titanium dioxide works too but needs higher concentrations.

The stinging isn't in your head. It's chemistry. Switch to minerals and your summer changes. No more choosing between protection and comfort. No more avoiding reapplication because it hurts. Just coverage that works without the burn.

Fun fact

Zinc oxide was first used as sunscreen by lifeguards in the 1930s, applied as a thick white paste on their noses that made them look like war paint.
