Squamish climbing trip

Why are you into it?
This is the one I'd text a friend about.
About
The Chief stops conversations. Stawamus Chief towers 2,300 feet above Squamish, British Columbia, a granite monolith that turns climbers into pilgrims. You drive two hours north from Seattle, cross the border, and suddenly you're in a place where weekend warriors become genuinely good at something difficult. The rock quality here makes other climbing areas look like practice.
The approach changes you before you even touch stone. Park at the Stawamus Chief Provincial Park base and hike through old growth that smells like truth. Fifteen minutes in, the trees open up and there it is: 600 routes on bulletproof granite, from beginner-friendly slabs to aid climbs that require sleeping on portaledges. The Apron runs moderate multi-pitch routes up to 18 pitches long. Grand Wall is the classic, a 15-pitch journey that takes most parties a full day and leaves them different people.
Squamish delivers what Seattle promises but can't always provide: reliable rock, predictable weather windows, and enough variety to spend years learning the same cliff face. The locals at Vertical Reality or Climb On Squamish don't oversell it. They just point you toward routes that match your skill level and let the granite do the talking. Camping at Alice Lake Provincial Park puts you twenty minutes from the cliff, close enough to get back out there the next morning before your forearms remember what happened yesterday.
This is the climbing trip you text friends about because it's the one that reminds you why you started climbing in the first place. Not the Instagram posts or the gear conversations, but the specific moment when everything clicks and you're moving up stone that's older than anything you'll ever worry about.
Fun fact
The Chief's granite formed 100 million years ago as molten rock that cooled slowly underground, creating the large crystals that give Squamish routes their legendary friction.
